The Blue Mountains are home to an astonishingly
diverse array of flora and fauna. There are 152 plant
families and 484 genera in the area. The area lists
92 eucalypt tree species found and 127 rare or threatened
plant species found in the area. In addition, the
area contains 132 vascular plants that are found nowhere
else on Earth, as typified by the living fossil, the
Wollemi Pine, whose history dates back 100 million
years.
